MMC invests in AI based media monitoring company Signal Media to fund their US sales drive

MMC Ventures is an active investor and award-winning venture fund manager, focused on technology-enabled sectors where the UK is a world leader – particularly financial and business services, software, digital media and consumer internet. With total funds raised over £170 million, MMC invests around £25 million per annum, in a combination of new investments and follow-on capital for existing portfolio companies.

Signal Media is an Artificial Intelligence media monitoring company that transforms the world’s information into accessible, actionable business knowledge. Signal is a media monitoring platform, helping clients including Old Mutual Wealth and Freshfields to monitor markets and acquire actionable business insights from the world’s media. The information is sourced from over 2.7m websites, 67,000 print feeds and 300 broadcast channels, and can be auto-translated from over 40 languages.

To fund a U.S. sales push in 2017 and further develop its product, Signal Media raised £5.8 million in new funding. Investors in the round include MMC Ventures, Hearst Ventures, Frontline Ventures, Reed Elsevier Ventures and Local Globe. The additional cash is to be used to add to the startup’s current 50-person headcount.

We advised MMC on their investment into Signal Media by providing financial due diligence and advising on key deal structuring matters.

Signal is one of the most promising companies in UK tech, and David and Miguel’s drive and vision has attracted some of the top AI talent in Europe. The company has grown incredibly quickly by solving real business problems using cutting-edge technology. Its impressive list of clients demonstrates the value of Signal’s product and we think the team can build the next big global information business.
